Revving Up for Charity: Documenting Our 2004 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Build for Graciously Broken Ministries

Starting a motorcycle build project is always exciting, but when it’s for a cause that truly matters, the energy shifts to something much bigger. We are kicking off a special build based on a 2004 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200, and every step of this project will be dedicated to supporting Graciously Broken Ministries. Once complete, this custom bike will be raffled off, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the ministry. This page will serve as your go-to place to follow the progress, see the transformation, and learn about the work behind the scenes.
Why This Build Matters

The Build Plan
The project will follow a clear, step-by-step process to ensure quality and transparency. Here’s what to expect:
-
Initial Assessment and Planning
We started by thoroughly inspecting the bike to identify what parts need repair, replacement, or upgrading. This includes the engine, frame, suspension, and electrical systems.
-
Disassembly
Carefully taking apart the bike allows us to clean, repair, and prep each component. This phase is crucial for spotting hidden issues and planning the custom touches.
-
Customization and Upgrades
The heart of the build involves adding unique features and performance improvements. Some planned upgrades include:
-
Custom paint job with meaningful graphics inspired by the ministry’s mission
-
Upgraded exhaust system for better sound and efficiency
-
Hardtail kit
-
Stylish design
-
Chain conversion, just to name a few
-
Reassembly and Testing
After customization, the bike will be reassembled with attention to detail. Testing will ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
-
Final Presentation
Once complete, the bike will be showcased with full documentation of the build process. The raffle will open, inviting supporters to participate and contribute to the ministry.

The 2004 Sportster 1200 motor is celebrated for its bulletproof reliability, strong low-end torque, and classic carbureted V-twin feel.
-
Massive Torque: Producing roughly 70 ft-lbs of torque at around 3,500 RPM, the 1,202cc engine provides incredible mid-range acceleration and punchy power for highway passing.
-
Carburetor Appeal: The 2004 motor features a carburetor (before the brand switched to fuel injection), which appeals to riders looking for old-school throttle response and the traditional Harley-Davidson sound.
-
Legendary Reliability: The Evolution motor is notoriously durable. With basic, routine maintenance, these engines easily reach high mileages without major overhauls
